โน๏ธ How to count correctly
Tawaf โ what counts as one circuit
One circuit starts at the Black Stone line and ends when you return to it, having kept the Kaaba on your left the whole way round.
- Tap once each time you pass the line โ so the counter reads 1 after your first full circuit.
- Your route must pass outside the Hateem wall. If the crowd pushed you through it, that circuit doesn't count โ undo it and redo.
- Seven circuits, then two rak'ah near Maqam Ibrahim.
Sa'i โ the one people get wrong
Each single length counts as one. Safa to Marwah is one, not half.
- Start at Safa. Tap each time you arrive at the other end.
- Seven lengths means you finish at Marwah. If you end up back at Safa, you've done six or eight.
- The counter above tells you which end you should be at, so you can check yourself against it.
If you lose count
Act on what you are certain of. If you genuinely don't know whether you're on four or five, take the lower number and do the extra circuit. An extra circuit is harmless; a missing one is not.
This counter is a convenience, not an authority. Keep your own awareness of where you are. Worship guidance on this site is general; verify details with a qualified scholar.
